Where young workers meet employers

Category: Keeping Up With Gen Y

May 12, 2010 | BY Tamara Bell

Jay Whitchurch, CEO of campus2careers

In today’s episode, Keeping Up with Gen Y talks to Jay Whitchurch, CEO, and Nathan Green, President, of campus2careers, the first online career community in the world that matches college students and recent grads with small and medium-sized businesses for jobs and internships.

While small and medium-sized businesses added 80 percent of the jobs to the economy in 2009, and represent 99.8 percent of U.S. companies, less than 1 percent recruit on university and college campuses. This means that college students are disproportionately dependent on larger employers to find their first job.  And in this economy, when large employers are downsizing and freezing jobs, it’s no wonder that nearly 70 percent of the students who graduated in 2009 are still unemployed or underemployed in 2010.

But how can smaller businesses and graduates find each other?  Whitchurch and Green discuss how small and medium-sized businesses can attract young employees in an effective and affordable way, and how recent college graduates can prepare for the job market.
