Lindsay T. Munoz

Lindsay Munoz is a member of the Y Gen Out Loud Board of Directors.

After graduating at the top of her high school class in 2000, Lindsay moved to Austin to attend The University of Texas.  She began her career in marketing and public relations when she was hired for a coveted internship with Public Strategies, a management and campaign firm spearheaded by former Texas Gov. Ann Richards.  At Public Strategies, Lindsay’s responsibilities included interacting with clients, developing multinational corporate surveys, and researching markets. Her interest in politics only grew while transcribing archived Oval Office conversations between President Lyndon Johnson and other influential Washington officials.

Lindsay graduated from the McCombs School of Business with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing and a minor in International Business. In 2005, she became communications director for State Representative Mark Homer.  She served as his press secretary and staff liaison between the Capitol office and the district, maintaining communications between the elected official and his constituents. After working three legislative sessions and two campaigns for Rep. Homer, Lindsay left the Capitol and was hired by the Houston Association of Realtors in November 2010 as the new Governmental Affairs Coordinator. She and her husband live in Houston.

While at the University of Texas, Lindsay was a charter member of the Women in Business Association and served as president and Public Relations officer.  She supports the university through her memberships in the Texas Exes Life and University of Texas Club.  She actively supports the involvement of Generation Y women in business by participating in the Greater Houston Women’s Chamber of Commerce, Women’s Council of REALTORS® and Community Cloth, a microenterprise empowering refugee women in Houston.

Dan Petronella

Dan Petronella is a member of the Y Gen Out Loud Board of Directors.

Dan serves as Vice President of Finance for PNC Financial Services Group.

He has over 15 years of experience in Finance, Treasury and Strategy across three different industries and a lifelong interest in media. After graduating from the University of Pennsylvania in 1987 with a Bachelor of Arts in History, Dan spent two years at WTXF-TV in Philadelphia as National Copy Coordinator. Dan then enrolled at the University of Texas at Austin, where he earned both a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Arts in Journalism in 1994.

Fully intending to return to media behind the camera, Dan instead chose to enter the management-training program at GATX Terminals Corporation, a company that provided storage and distribution to the oil and chemical industries. Dan successfully completed the program and spent nearly two years with GATX.

However, Dan knew this was not his life’s calling. He joined Walt Disney World in 1996 as an analyst focusing on new theme park ticket strategies. He spent nearly five years at Disney, where he worked on several new business development initiatives, international projects and led the planning processes for the global WDW Marketing and Sales organization.

Dan made yet another industry change in 2001, entering the world of retail as Director, Financial Planning & Analysis for Limited Brands, the parent company of Victoria’s Secret and Bath and Body Works. In this role, Dan oversaw the financial planning and forecasting processes for this $9 billion specialty retailer.

In 2004, Dan moved to teen retailer Abercrombie & Fitch to build their FP&A team from scratch. This included leading their first strategic planning process, which resulted in Dan being asked to evaluate and negotiate two potential multi billion dollar transactions. After these transactions, Dan transitioned into the Treasurer role in 2006. As Treasurer, Dan developed A&F’s initial international expansion strategy, negotiated the lease for the company’s first Asia store in Tokyo and developed a $450 million credit facility with nine banks.

In 2008, Dan joined American Eagle Outfitters as Vice President, Corporate Finance and Treasurer. At AEO, he oversaw up to $900 million of investments, international finance, corporate insurance and real estate finance. Dan was also the Treasurer and a Board Member of the American Eagle Outfitters Foundation.

Outside of the office, Dan also served as the Secretary of the Executive Committee for Nationwide Children’s Hospital Development Board and volunteered at Junior Achievement. He is also a graduate of Leadership Columbus and earned a Certificate of Professional Development from Wharton Executive Education. Dan resides in Pittsburgh with his wife Katie and son Danny.

Virginia White

Virginia White represents Generation Y on the Y Gen Out Loud Board of Directors.

Originally from Austin, Texas, Virginia is currently a sophomore pursuing a Bachelor of Arts in History from Rice University in Houston. Interested in public policy, poverty and social justice work, she also participates in the Poverty, Justice and Human Capabilities program offered by Rice.

Virginia has a long-time interest in government and the political process. In summer 2006, she was a member of Texas State Rep. Mark Strama’s Campaign Academy. As Virginia’s first hands-on political experience, this program— which focuses on the involvement of young people in the political process— inspired Virginia’s commitment to the inclusion of young people within the political process.

Currently, Virginia works as an intern at the James A. Baker III Institute for Public Policy. Through this work she hopes to expand her knowledge of government and public policy and gain insight into the inner-workings of this field. Her experience at the Baker Institute has furthered her interest in pursuing policy work and solidified her belief that the nature of policy decisions has dramatic effects on the lives of Gen Y. This experience has also embedded in her a deeper appreciate for the work of Y Gen Out Loud as it seeks to spread relevant and accurate political and social news to the young generation.

Virginia is involved in a number of extracurricular activities both on and off campus. She is on the leadership team for Rice for Peace and Justice as well as The Rice Progressive Christians. She is a member of the KIPP-Rice scholar corps and tutors weekly at KIPP Sunnyside High School. She is also conducting original research regarding religion and leadership in the Rice Sociology department.

Upon graduation, Virginia hopes to attend graduate school and engage in a career in government, non-profit or social justice work.

Linda Young

Linda Young is secretary/treasurer of Y Gen Out Loud. She also heads the Governmental and Community Relations Department for the Austin Community College District, where she has worked for more than a decade.

In her present position, Linda is responsible for coordinating the college’s legislative agenda, representing the institution before all levels of government, and administering the district’s elections. Under her leadership, the department established the Center for Community Based and Nonprofit Organizations, which provides resources, networking, and learning opportunities to more than 5,000 nonprofits in Texas, as well as the Center for Public Policy and Political Studies, which gives students a positive opportunity to participate in the public policy process.

Related to her work at ACC, Linda helped form a community collaborative to benefit underprivileged students in a small suburb east of Austin. The public-private collaborative includes city leaders, local business and community organizations, churches, and parents groups, as well as the school district and ACC, working together to find ways to encourage the students to continue their education. While president of the Manor Education Foundation board of directors, Linda helped secure a $1 million endowment for the organization.

In addition to her work at ACC, Linda has served on the board of several nonprofit organizations, including Community Action Network, Goodwill Industries of Central Texas, Caritas of Austin, and American Association of University Women. She also is a graduate of Leadership Texas, and a recipient of the Athena Award, a national leadership award for women.
